Main Page Welcome To Pi Kappa Alpha
At San Jose State, our members constantly work to keep the fraternity in the highest regard. This website exists for several reasons. First, to keep the people outside of the fraternity aware of what we have been up to. We are always working to raise the name of Pi Kappa Alpha through community service, funraising, and general good works. Second, to educate potenetial members about the fraternity. There is so much more to a social organization than what most people see on the weekends, and this place is a good jumping off point to seeing what more there is to Pikes. Finally, this place will also serve as a central place for SJSU Pikes, past and present, to meet up and organize.
Recent NewsSpring 2009 Update Sunday, March 15, 2009 @ 9:52pm This semester has been a whirlwind of activity so far, and so much has been happening that its been hard to have a separate news update for every event. So, here is a quick run down of what the chapter has been up this semester (so far). Pikes held a brand new philanthropic event on February 27th: Capture the Flag. The premise of the event was simple - the house of every fraternity and sorority that participated was made base to their flag. It was the job of every other organization to retrieve those flags, and bring them to a central location on SJSU campus where Pike referees kept score. The flags could be guarded via whatever means the team preferred, with many using water balloons and water guns to defend their territory. The only requirement to play was a t-shirt made specially for the event, which is where all of the fundraised dollars were generated. The event was a tremendous success, with the fraternity actually running out of shirts and raising nearly $1,000. Needless to say, we expect this first-time event to grow over the coming semesters into something very special and unique to our chapter. The following day was our annual Founder's Day Luncheon, again held at Rob Sanchez's Melting Pot in San Mateo. We had another great turn out this year of both older and newer alumnus members, and greatly appreciate everyone who made it out and made a donation to the chapter's general fund. As these events grow every year, they become even more fun, and we hope to see you at the next one! The following weekend Pikes hosted their annual Garnet and Gold Football tournament, which has become a campus tradition of it's own. This year nineteen teams participated, more than doubling the nine from the first tournament three years ago. The event has gotten so big that we can no longer manage with public parks, and instead used Independence High School's fields and had the tournament spread across two days in order accommodate all of the games. The event raised over $1,300 this year, and we look forward to what the future holds. This past weekend found Pike winning competitions left and right instead of hosting them. On Thursday, Delta Pi chapter won both the Open Campus and IFC League championships in dodgeball, just like last Spring. Later that night, the Chapter also took 1st place in Kappa Delta Sorority's Shamrock Showcase dance competition with a Ghostbuster themed performance, a video of which follows. This was the second year in a row Pikes took top honors in this competition, and hope to continue on. Finally, Saturday was Alpha Phi Sorority's yearly volleyball tournament, which they call Phi Ball. Our chapter established something of a dynasty this time around by winning the tournament for the 3rd straight year. As you can see from just this handful of events so far this Spring, Delta Pi is continue its traditions of greatness. We look forward to what the rest of this semester holds, including initiating the Xi pledge class, winning even more events, and having the best house on campus; all while striving toward even loftier goals and continuing to grow scholars, leaders, athletes and gentlemen in the spirit of phi phi kappa alpha. And, as a reminder, Pat's Run is coming up on April 27. Our chapter has been a major part of this event since its inception, and will be running Mile Marker 1 as always. If you want to run with the Pikes (even if you're not one!), information about the team can be found here. It is a great event for a great cause. Twice Featured in the Latest Shield & Diamond Friday, January 2, 2009 @ 4:4pm The Winter issue of Pi Kappa Alpha quarterly magazine was recently published, and our chapter was highlighted with not one, but two featured stories. The first discusses this year's alumni golf tournament, which has become a rather major event for us in the last few years and continues to grow. The other is about our participation in The Pat Tillman Race, which we support every Spring. http://sd.pikes.org/1208/sd1208h1.html

Delta Pi (San Jose State) Pat Tillman was a Summa Cum Laude graduate from Arizona State University in 1998 as well as the Pac 10 Defensive Player of the year. The Arizona Cardinals drafted him in the seventh round and even though many questioned his ability to make the opening-day roster, he soon became the team’s starting safety. In 2000, he broke the franchise record for tackles with 224. Rather than cashing in on his success in 2002, he turned down a multi million dollar contract to serve his country in an elite Army Ranger Unit, and unfortunately died in 2004 while serving his country in Eastern Afghanistan. The Pat Tillman Foundation supports developing tomorrow’s leaders today with their Leadership Through Action program at Arizona State University. May 3rd, 2008 marked the Third Annual Pat’s Run held at Leland High School in San Jose, California. Approximately 6,000 people were in attendance and the Delta Pi Pikes were responsible for the first mile marker of the 4.2 mile race, an honor they have held each year since its inception. Kurt Carrasquilla ’89 worked with Chapter President Dustin Brunzlick ’05 and Patrick McCauley ’06 to coordinate the volunteering effort. The Pikes had 40 brothers supporting the 1st mile marker as well as 10 active and alumni racers. Special congratulations to John Van Metre ’01 who placed 19th out of 3,317 runners and covered the 4.2 mile course in 23:22 minutes. In the Super Clydesdales division, Daniel Atilano ’03 placed third with a time of 36:18 minutes. San Jose Race Director Erin Dando, was very complimentary of the Delta Pi Pikes for their continued support each year. The Foundation is looking forward to seeing the chapter out again for a fourth year in 2009! Nu Pledge Class Initiated Monday, November 17, 2008 @ 0:53am Congratulations to the newest pledge class to pass through the ranks of Pi Kappa Alpha at San Jose State University. We were fortunate enough to initiate seventeen men into our brotherhood this fall semester, and have the highest expectations for what these scholars, leaders, athletes, and gentlemen will bring to our chapter in the coming years. They are:
Good luck and congratulations, brothers! |
